Our Story Begins
Who We Are
Rio-Coffee Valley Birding Tours 2025 is a unique cultural birding adventure aimed at
birders wanting to experience the best of the Atlantic Rainforest’s endemic bird species
while taking in Brazil’s rich cultural heritage.
Developed in collaboration with Rio de Janeiro’s top bird guides, this LGBTQIA-inclusive
tour goes from Rio’s tropical wetland forest, including a visit to world-renowned nature preserve REGUA, to the high-montane cloud forests of Nova Friburgo in search of range-restricted rarities like the melancholic black-and-gold cotinga (saudade), to dry semi-
deciduous forest in the Coffee Valley where Rio de Janeiro’s endemic-rich bird species are increasingly under threat from habitat loss (drought, forest fires, illegal pet trade).
Mission & Vision
Our mission is to promote birding and ecotourism in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and foster a cultural exchange between Brazilian and international birders that lead to conservation and citizen science projects, from Global Big Day fundraising bird walks, to offering visitors a rich cultural appreciation of Brazil through afrotourism and gastronomical tours and coffee tastings, to raising awareness of the Atlantic Forest's unique biodiversity.
